A 23-year-old security guard is facing charges related to a Sunday night shooting in the Loop involving a 34-year-old man who was in critical condition after being shot, according to Chicago police.
Officers were called to the 100 block of North Lake Shore Drive — not far from the intersection of North Wabash Avenue and West Randolph Street — to investigate the shooting about 10:20 p.m., police said in an online media notice. The security guard had been in an argument with the 34-year-old when the guard “drew his weapon and discharged it,” hitting the older man at least once in his abdomen.
Police did not immediately provide additional information, such as whether the guard was on-duty, at what type of business the shooting took place or what the men had been arguing about.
The 34-year-old was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, authorities said. No one else was hurt.
The security guard was arrested and officials expect he will be charged, according to preliminary information from police.
