JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Police investigation of a bogus bomb threat made to Jackson’s Walmart store has concluded, and charges could follow, police said.

The Walmart store, 1700 W. Michigan Ave. in Blackman Charter Township, was evacuated and closed for about four hours Monday, July 18, after the reported bomb threat.

Police have identified the suspect as a 51-year-old man from Leslie, according to the Blackman-Leoni Township Department of Public Safety.

The man, originally identified as a Walmart employee, has since been determined to be an employee of the Subway restaurant located inside the store, Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety Director Mike Jester said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, July 19, a warrant request is still under review by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, police said.

Police were dispatched to the store at 9:20 a.m. Monday for the reported bomb threat.

Blackman-Leoni officers, with assistance from the Michigan State Police, evacuated the building and called in a bomb-sniffing dog to the scene to clear the area, police said previously. No explosives were found in the search, leading police to determine the threat was a hoax.
