Detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy on the body of a man found floating in Central Park’s Harlem Meer on Saturday night.
Officers from the Central Park Precinct discovered the dead man, believed to be in his 40s, inside the waterway, off the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park North, at about 6:53 p.m. on July 24.
Members of the NYPD Emergency Services Unit pulled the man out of the lake and brought him to shore. EMS units pronounced the man dead; his identity remains unknown, police said.
The body was then transferred to the Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. It’s not known, at this point, exactly how long the man had been in the water.
The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
