Greenport man with nine pending criminal charges, arrested for assaulting police - Mid-Hudson News

Michael Kelley

HUDSON – A 36-year-old Greenport man was committed to the Columbia County Jail on Tuesday afternoon, August 17 after he fought with Hudson City Police officers.

Michael Kelley had gone to a impound lot off Green Street in Hudson where he was attempting to illegally remove his vehicle. He was located on the 700 block of Columbia Street.

A computer check determined he had an outstanding warrant from the Town of Catskill for criminal mischief and assault.

While being placed under arrest, Kelley became violent. Several officers were kicked, and one sustained an injury to her hand.

Kelley attempted to kick out the window of a patrol car and caused damage to the passenger door.

While at the police station, he damaged the holding cell by repeatedly kicking the door.

As a result, he was charged with assault, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and criminal tampering. He was remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.

Kelley has nine charges pending from previous cases – felony criminal possession of drugs in Hudson; felony drug possession with intent to sell, also in Hudson; aggravated harassment, assault and criminal obstruction of breathing, all in Hudson; criminal obstruction of breathing and harassment in Stockport; making a terroristic threat in county court; and a violation of probation from Philmont.

The warrant from Catskill for assault and criminal mischief has been lodged at the jail.

“I wish for the speedy recovery of my officer,” said Chief L. Edward Moore. “Her and her fellow officers were kicked, spit on, and verbally abused, but kept their composure and contained a violent situation.”
