WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A plea deal has been scheduled for the Stratford man charged with murder.
Jared Carl is charged with the murder of Christian Schauer. Schauer’s body was found in the McMillan Marsh in December of 2020.
The plea hearing is scheduled for November 17th. The terms of the plea bargain won’t be known until then.
Carl is facing several charges including first-degree intentional homicide.
Investigators said Carl initially claimed that his father, Shawn Carl, shot and killed Chris Schauer. Prosecutors said Shawn Carl did know about the alleged murder and help conceal Schauer’s vehicle. Shawn Carl was arrested in February and held on first-degree intentional homicide until Audrey Benson came forward saying Jared Carl killed Schauer. Benson pleaded not guilty to charges of hiding a corpse and aiding a felon as the third suspect in the case.
Shawn Carl is charged with harboring or aiding a felon.
