STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A New Brighton woman is already facing misdemeanor charges in three cases dating to last November.
And that’s just the start of Brittany Williams’ problems with the law.
Williams, 36, now faces felony burglary charges stemming from an unrelated incident two months ago.
Prosecutors allege the defendant, who lives on the 300 block of Westervelt Avenue, illegally entered another home on that street on July 25 and swiped another person’s personal property and cash.
The alleged theft occurred around 6:35 p.m.
Williams went into the residence and stole two driver’s licenses, a vehicular registration, a bus pass, a medical card, and an undisclosed amount of money from a bedroom nightstand, said a criminal complaint.
Police busted her on Aug. 9, based on videotape surveillance and witness interviews, the complaint said.
The defendant told police it was a misunderstanding.
“I know that location. I been there numerous times,” prosecutors’ court filings quote her as saying. “This guy … used to rent an apartment in the back, and [he] sent me there to get some of his personal property from the apartment.”
Williams was charged with second- and third-degree burglary, along with misdemeanor counts of petit larceny and stolen-property possession.
She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Thursday in state Supreme Court, St. George, and is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail, show online state court records.
Her next court date is Oct. 4.
Her lawyer did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment on the case.
Meanwhile, the defendant has three cases pending in Criminal Court.
She is accused in two of those cases of possessing stolen property and is charged in the third case with criminal trespass, said online state court records.
Those cases arise from arrests on Nov. 5, Dec. 24 and May 27.
Her latest arrest — this time for burglary — makes 4 pending criminal cases against Staten Island woman, 36 - SILive.com
