NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reports three arrests for suspicion of DUI, an arrest on an active warrant and the theft of another catalytic converter.
September 30
- At approximately 1:14 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Jeep operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Richboro Road and Mill Pond Road. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
- At approximately 6:54 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Jeep operator for committing a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass and Richboro Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcoticsand drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges for the driver and passenger are pending evidence results. The driver of the vehicle also had an active arrest warrant.

- At approximately 8:30 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of Upper Silver Lake Road and Kirkwood Drive for the report of a one-vehicle traffic accident. Upon arrival, they discovered that a Ford sedan had struck a telephone pole. The pole was severely damaged and the transformer was smoking. After being evaluated for injuries by EMS, the officer made contact with the driver and detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
- Police were dispatched at approximately 8:23 a.m. to the area of Newtown-Yardley Road for the report of a catalytic converter being stolen from a work truck. The incident is under investigation.
October 5
- At approximately 12:23 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Hyundai sedan operator for committing a traffic violation in the area of Washington Crossing Road and Lakeview Drive. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
