CHICAGO — A man has been charged after a 9-month-old girl was shot in the head in Washington Park, according to Chicago police.
Police said 23-year-old Kenneth Mosby is facing felonies of attempted first degree murder and aggravated discharge of firearm.
The shooting happened around 10:55 p.m. Tuesday in the 0-100 block of East Garfield. The baby was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition by her mother.
Police said they did not receive a report of the incident until 10 a.m. Wednesday. As of Friday morning, the 9-month-old remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Hospital officials say they’re looking into why police were not notified about the young gunshot victim until Wednesday morning.
“That critical time,” said community activist Andrew Holmes. “When that 9-month-old baby got to the hospital, nobody called the detective. Anytime a gunshot victim walks into a hospital, a call is supposed to be made to CPD.”
