Two women caught in $1 million fraud, more charges pending - Jamaica Observer

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Two women who were posing as work-and-travel agents, were slapped with multiple charges of fraud, after being accused of syphoning off over $1-million in total from seven of their victims.

Karen Facey and Sudine Hall appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday to answer to the charges. Court documents revealed that they reportedly took a total of $1,627,500 from the complainants. Hall and Facey were commissioned to secure employment in the United States for the complainants but no jobs were forthcoming.

They were charged with multiple counts of engaging in transactions involving criminal property, operating as an employment agency without a licence, conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretence.

The investigating officer indicated that additional charges will be brought against them as other victims have come forward.

During the proceedings, the women told presiding judge, Lori-Ann Cole-Montague that they were willing to reimburse the complainants.

When asked when the money will be available, Hall indicated that she can pay $1-million on November 16. Hearing this, the judge set that date for their bail application.

Additionally, fingerprint orders were made for both Hall and Facey.

It was revealed that the police seized over 30 passports during a search of their homes. The judge ordered that the documents be released to their owners.
